Lesser Black-backed Gull Larus fuscus2cy intermedius, Warks, November 2009 |
© A. R. Dean
A second calendar-year (2W) intermedius. This individual was colour-ringed as a pullus in Rogaland, Norway, in July 2008, so is a proven intermedius. There was little in the appearance of this individual to 'catch the eye' among graellsii nearby, while three adult presumed intermedius in the same gathering were much darker ('blacker') on the mantle. It seems likely that many intermedius are overlooked and that it is commoner in the midlands in winter than published records might suggest.
