Adult intermedius can appear almost as black as nominate fuscus ('Baltic Gull') while smaller individuals can appear delicate and very attenuated (plates 1 & 2). Note limited contrast between wing-point and upperparts compared with adjacent graellsii (plate 2). Although the primary moult is less-advanced than the graellsii (where fresh p6/p7 are readily visible), the flight shot indicates that p1 to p3 have been dropped, compatible with intermedius but not fuscus.
