Pale creamy-buff plumage with ginger-brown mottling typical of juvenile. Bill short (c. 60% of length of head) and extension of primaries beyond tip of tail exceeds length of bill. In this individual the bill has a black tip and a dark grey base, looking all-dark at a distance.
