Iceland Gull, 1W/2W, Staffs, January 2002

Note uniformly pale creamy-buff plumage with wing-points slightly paler still. Proportions relatively delicate compared with Glaucous Gull - bill short (50% - 70% of length of head) and extension of primaries beyond tip of tail exceeds length of bill. General appearance suggests first-winter and aged thus in the field. Bill-pattern, with sharply-defined black-tip and flesh-pink basal two-thirds, perhaps more typical of 2W.
