Lesser Black-backed Gull Larus fuscus

Third-winter intermedius, West Midlands, August 2004

LBB Gull intermedius, West Midlands, August 2004

Third-winter intermedius. This individual, observed on August 27th 2004, had been colour-ringed as a pullus in Norway on July 3rd 2002, and is thus a proven intermedius of known age. Note the colour of the upperparts compared with the graellsii on the far right. Plumage much like adult but note retained dark markings towards tip of bill.
